Couple decide to not adopt a cat because of the girlfriend's allergies unless the CDS "awards" them with one, and just a few days later, a persistent kitten follows them home and refuses to leave until they adopt her

As always, the CDS chooses you when you least expect it.

The CDS has a funny way of choosing people who have no interest in it. We, cat people, could be sitting here, waiting for the CDS to hear our calls for years on end, and it simply won't. But then someone who doesn't like cats, has never wanted cats, has never so much as shown a slight interest in cats, will be chosen. We don't know exactly why this happens all the time, but we do know that these matches always end up working. 

You could be a dad who "hates cats", but once your kids adopt one, you fall in love with it more than any of the other family members. You could be a mom who has never wanted a cat, but once you've been chosen, you love that cat nearly as much (and sometimes more) than your babies. And of couse, you can be allergic. 

The couple who shared their story on r/CatDistributionSystem found themselves facing an issue that isn't quite so simple to solve. The girlfriend is allergic - to both cats and dogs. And although both of them have been getting puppy fever lately, her allergies could not allow them to just go ahead and get a pet. So, they left it up to fate. They called out to the universe and said that they will not go out of their way to look for a cat or a dog, but if one finds them - if one chooses them, they will not fight it, and they will do everything that they need to do with these allergies to keep their pet in the home it chose. And just like that, the CDS heard their call, and barely a few days later, a tiny kitty was following them home.

    Just recently hopped on this subreddit. I've never owned cats and was pretty dang allergic to them. My BF grew up with like 7 cats so he was used to them.

    We moved in together nearly a year ago and after a while we were getting puppy fever if anything. But we had agreed that we would not get a pet just yet.

    2. We found him at a rather "odd" time for us. I work 3rd shift so I was de d tired, more than normal, when I got home. I took a long nap and ended up waking up fairly late (like my bedtime). I made some food and then my BF and I decided to go on a walk much later at night since the sun was still up at 8:30 PM.

    He is the first cat to respond to our pspspsp and followed us a bit. We kept trying to convince ourselves that this ISN'T the cat. But 2 more laps and boy follows us home after luring him by tapping a can of tuna.

    BF and I got attached quickly and did look for his owners because he was pretty much completely housebroken. No one owned him and he has no microchip!

    And I have spent an UNGODLY amount of money on making the allergies more tolerable. It's 100% worth it for that sweet baby boy.

  • We're so glad that there are people like this who actually exist in the world. Yes, it is so worth it. Every treatment. If a cat chose you, then it is meant to be, and it will be worth absolutely everything.

    Azure_Skies333 Hey, just a heads up because I went through the same thing I'm allergic to cats. I went to an allergist and got allergy shots to help build my immune system up to it. And now I've had cats for over 20 years. I still take a Zyrtec daily because sometimes I'll get itchy, but mostly it's seasonal allergy stuff. Just letting you know that it is possible to live with cats and still have allergies. And congrats on your new boss.

    lamelay OP Vet that scanned for a chip said he is approx 1 year old. He's still a kitten to us! Poor baby, we think he was abandoned.

    Pacific 1944 Looks like a sweetie. My husband was allergic to cats when we met and cats are a non negotiable for me. We've always had multiples. Four now. keeping the house really clean..free from dust/dander/linens washed more frequently than usual helps. We've been together 30 years...in the first few years his body acclimated over time and no more allergy. Also unrelated is that a quilt made with national park fabric? I'm coveting that!

    lamelay OP He has been checked for a chip. He does not have one. We posted on the apartment complex group chat and no one claimed him. He was actually posted on the chat 2 weeks ago.

    lamelay OP Oh I looked up everything. I've got an air purifier, the pet food, dander wipes, and dander spray. It's actually helped a lot!
